Marjory Sutton preached during the Installation of her daughter, Rev. Karen Estes. She spoke about the many moving coincidences (no, she called them God-incidences) which led Karen to be called to ministry. Participants in the Installation Service included: Rev. Helen DeLeon, Teaching Elder, Webster Presbyterian, Moderator of Presbytery Commission; Darlene McAlexander, Ruling Elder, Woodforest Presbyterian, Houston; Ann Reilly, Ruling Elder, Oaks Presbyterian, Houston; Rev. Becky Downs, Teaching Elder, John Knox, Houston; Marjory Sutton, Guest Preacher, Karen's Mom, Ruling Elder, Woodforest Presbyterian Church; and Ryan Cole, Music Director, Woodforest Presbyterian Church. Welcome, Karen! We are so glad to have you here!

Woodforest Presbyterian Church is blessed to welcome three new members - Joseph, Jeff, and Jon-Paul!
On Pentecost Sunday (5/22/2021) we receive the Pentecost Offering for Children at Risk, Youth, and Young Adults.
* 40% of the collection stays with our congregation to develop and support programs for young people in our own church and community. * 25% supports Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) serving in communities around the world and growing as leaders through transformative Christian Service. * 25% supports Ministries with Youth including the Presbyterian Youth Triennium. * 10% is devoted to children at-risk to improve education and provide safe havens. The gifts we share will help young people learn important lessons about life and faith. Most importantly, this special collection is an investment in our greatest resource - the young people who will grow into tomorrow's leaders. Checks may be mailed to the church or placed in the donation box during inperson worship. Pentecost is the day in our church calendar that marks the birth of the Christian church. At the first Pentecost, the Holy Spirit, in the form of doves or tongues of fire, descended upon the disciples and gave them the courage to spread their faith. In remembrance of this event, we dress ourselves (and our sanctuary) in the color red. Here you can see red ribbons waiting for our congregation to arrive! This year, our Pentecost worship service will include a baptism and the addition of three new members. Following the service, we have refreshments in the courtyard. And following that, Reverend Karen Estes will be officially installed as our installed pastor. A reception follows.

Many thanks to Rev. Dr. Jim Gill, who guided our congregation through the transition to a new minister. On Palm Sunday, Jim preached his last sermon for Woodforest Presbyterian Church - the video can be found here. After a brief reception, Jim exited the church carrying the last few items to go - his shepherd's crook and his guitar! Thank you for your steadfast service, Jim!
This photo shows Rev. Dr. Jim Gill and a dedicated member of the congregation (her shirt says so!) as they help prepare our Drive-By Chicken Dinners. They were they ever delicious! It was also great to see everyone - even if it was through the car windows. Thanks to all who made it happen!
