What a wonderful day we had! In addition to celebrating our congregation's 62nd birthday, we were able to honor retired pastor Cassandra Dahnke in person! Cassandra retired during the pandemic, and we were never able to say our farewells... until now! What a blessing it was to see so many familiar faces. Yes, we needed more chairs for everyone - but we were still observing Covid precations. Together, we took a trip down photo-memory lane, followed by a fabulous musical tribute called "In This Very Room" by Ryan and his friend Cheri. Cassandra spoke to all of us... Then we all adjourned to sign Cassandra's memory book and to enjoy a Mediterranean luncheon (yum!) on the back patio. And to top it off, the weather was perfect. Storm clouds loomed, but the rain held off until the picnic was finished.
Thank you, Cassandra for all your love and devotion! You touched so many lives during your years at Woodforest Presbyterian Church.

What better way to spend our annual Church Celebration then to give thanks for the ministry of our longest-serving pastor. The pandemic has postponed Cassanda Dahnke's retirement party time-and-again. But on Sunday, November 21st we will finally get to say our fond farewells. If the weather is nice we will even make it a picnic! There will be a time for sharing, so think of your favorite memory of Cassandra. This is also the time for members to add a cross to the entrance wall, if they have not already done so.
The Bloodmobile will be collecting donations of blood at Woodforest Presbyterian Church on November 28, 2021. The collection will begin at 9:30 in the morning, so plan on giving before (or after) worship services. Giving blood is truly the gift of life!
Our Halloween Fun on Sunday 10/31/2021 began as Pastor Karen explained the history of All Saints Day and All Hallows Eve, and she explained how our Halloween traditions have evolved. During the Sunday School hour, we celebrated with costumes, Boo Bingo, relay races, and yummy snacks. It was fun (and informative) for all!
The Peace and Global Witness Offering will be collected as we celebrate World Communion Sunday on October 10, 2021. This special collection of the PCUSA offers light to those in the shadows and guides us into the ways of peace. We come together to promote the peace of Christ by addressing systems of injustice at home and around the world.
* 25% of the offering is used in our own community * 25% of the offering will support peacemaking in our region, and * 50% of this offering supports peace and reconciliation across the globe. When we all do a little, it adds up to a lot! Congratulations to Joseph Mendoza, who has been accepted in the Presbyterian Youth Connection Council! The PYCC is the organization that plans and runs the annual Conclaves retreat as well as all other teen events in the Presbytery. We are proud to see Joseph assuming this leadership role!
Woodforest Presbyterian Church has sent a donation to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance to help provide emergency relief and short-term recovery following the recent earthquake in Haiti. If you would like to contribute as well, click here for more information. As always, please pray with us that the communities affected by this earthquake will have their needs; that those offering assistance will be strengthened; and that all will be reminded of the hope found in God.
Best laid plans... We had scheduled our first in-person potluck dinner for August 29, 2021 but the recent Covid surge made us cancel that event. Instead, Plan B was to make BBQ Chicken Dinners to go. Yum!
Wow! Our annual School Supply drive was the best ever! Many thanks to those who donated all those crayons, markers, and backpacks as well as checks and cash! This year, our school supplies went to the students at Cloverleaf Elementary School. Our prayers go out to all our young people, wishing them a happy and healthy school year.
