On July 5, 2020, Reverend Helen Moore led us again in worship - including our first Communion together since the pandemic hit.  What an incredible blessing for the Church Together!  Her sermon was titled, "To Follow Jesus".   There was a short interruption in the signal, but the service can be found here and here.

COMMUNION AT WOODFOREST DURING THE PANDEMIC
 
At the last Session meeting we discussed implementing communion in worship once again. Many folks have told me of the loss they feel in their hearts because they have not had communion in months. I feel it too. However, we are also mindful of the rise COVID-19 cases again and must be faithful to our ordination vows to promote the welfare of the people. This does not mean communion cannot happen. This is what we propose:
 

• Communion will be reinstated on the first Sunday of each month, beginning July 5, 2020.
• A small amount of elements will be individually prepared in the church kitchen with someone wearing a mask and gloves. Individual bread and cups with be placed on the communion table.
• I will preside over the usual communion service but will not touch the elements.
• Each person in the sanctuary will come forward to serve themselves, being careful not to touch anyone else’s elements.
• Folks joining us by Facebook are encouraged to provide their own elements at home, which I will include as I bless the Lord’s Supper. You may partake as you watch us partake at the church.
• I will partake myself after everyone in the sanctuary has been served. This is in keeping with the theological understanding that ordained persons are servants who must attend to the needs of our people before we attend to our own.

 
We recognize that this is not the service to which we are accustomed. But we also believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is present as we celebrate together. The manner in which we are served is not where the mystery lies. It is in the power of the Holy Spirit which transforms us into the Body of Christ on earth as we share the bread and wine in Jesus’ name. We pray that you will join us in doing this with joy!
