The weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas called ADVENT, which means "coming". During this time, we prepare ourselves for the coming of the Christ Child. The sanctuary fills with poinsettias. A Chrismon tree is covered with white and gold Christian symbols, and our children present their annual Advent Play. A small manger scene in the sanctuary begins with an empty stable. As the weeks pass, the stable slowly fills with animals, Mary and Joseph, shepherds, angels - and finally the baby Jesus in a manger!
Our LIVE NATIVITY is held in mid-December so that we can all travel to Bethlehem and re-enact the Christmas story. A stable on the grounds of Woodforest Presbyterian Church shelters goats, sheep, a camel - and the manger of course! Costumes are provided for shepherds, angels and wise men of all ages and sizes.
At 7:30 pm on CHRISTMAS EVE, we blend candles, carols and the Christmas story together in a candlelight worship service.
